Waltham, MA, March 16, 2020: As developments continue to unfold throughout the World in regards to COVID-19 (Coronavirus), GPS International would like to assure that the safety of our players, staff, and GPS International personnel is paramount.
We would like to take this time to provide an overall update on all of our International Academies and their efforts to keep our players and staff safe and combat the COVID-19 outbreak.
Some recent developments around the International programs include:
- GPS Spain has advised that all International Academy players return home during this time, and a majority have done so. The Spanish Government has ordered all educational, sporting, and social institutions to close until further notice. The small number of players left in Valencia will stay at the residence during this period of time.
- The GPS International Academy at Bracknell in the UK has completely shut down all football training and match day programs with immediate effect, some of which follows the guidance of relevant leagues and governing bodies, but more so a full shut down in order to limit people on campus, employ only a core staff which in turn will isolate and further protect our international players.
- All GPS South East Europe Programs are closed until March 30th. GPS SEE will continue to monitor the ongoing situation and make decisions accordingly.
- GPS Portugal is following the guidelines of partner club, Academica de Coimbra, and have closed all training and match day programs with immediate effect for one month. The players who have remained at the residence during this period of time will be well looked after by a core group of staff to limit their exposure.
All of our GPS International Programs are working to protect the health and well-being of our players, staff, and other constituents, as well as to limit the spread to others through social distancing. We are following the guidelines set forth by our corresponding health organizations, and will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as needed. We wish all of our players, families, friends, staff, and the rest of the community good health and safety during this time.
