October 18th, 2019, Waltham, MA; The La Vall tournament, held in sunny Spain over Columbus Day weekend in the United States, is a key fixture on any youth soccer fan’s calendar.

This year’s event was put on by Club La Vall in tandem alongside the local municipality while being sponsored by GPS Spain.

This event attracts some of the most prestigious names in world football and see the likes of Arsenal, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Brighton and Hove Albion, and Valencia CF, GPS International partners, all compete.

GPS had a strong presence at the tournament with several teams traveling from abroad to compete. The GPS National Team 2005 Boys decided to add in another trip on top of their involvement in the Surf Cup this past summer.

Joining them was GPS’ partner based out of Haiti, FC Toro. There were concerns that FC Toro would not get the chance to participate in the event. Their country is in turmoil due to political hardship and their visas only managed to be approved a week before the event.

It was a whirlwind experience for the boys hailing from Port-au-Prince as they went from potentially not participating in the event to taking down behemoths Barcelona.

A third team that traveled across the pond was the GPS Spain Combine team. This team consisted of players who have shown interest in joining the International Academy in 2020. They were selected for the team by GPS Spain staff who have watched them play at various events. They impressed throughout the event picking up an impressive result against British giants Arsenal.

GPS South East Europe, a GPS International Academy serving Greece/Bulgaria, also traveled to Spain to compete in the event.

Impressive results like these did GPS players no harm in front of scouts representing the upper echelon of Spanish and British soccer, such as Manchester United and Liverpool scouts making the trip to join those from Barcelona and Madrid.

“This was an amazing trip for all of the GPS teams involved,” said International Director Tommaso Trevisan. “It is always a great opportunity for our teams to compete with some of the best from around the world and this event didn’t disappoint. I would also like to thank GPS Spain for their world class hospitality.”
